Stalls at the Apollo Victoria Theatre

Now playing: Wicked From £30 Book tickets

Rows A to Z, then ZA to ZJ, 1,298 seats, reached by 33 steps down from the foyer.

Who the Stalls suit

Most people. It's the level we recommend here, and the bigger of the two, running from the edge of the stage all the way back to the sound desk. It's a massive show in a massive theatre, and the Stalls put you closest to it.

A wide walkway runs across the front of row Q and splits the level in two: three blocks in front of it, and four behind.

Where we'd put you

Row Q. With the walkway in front of it, there's no row directly ahead of you, so you get extra legroom and nobody's head in your eyeline. It's the seat we recommend above any other in the building.

Rows F to P, in the centre block, are the other strong choice, closer to the stage and clear of the level above.

On a budget, the back of the Stalls. Priced right, these are the best value in the building. The Dress Circle is overhead from row Q, the top of the stage starts to go from about row W, and back there you miss a bit of the flying scene: parts of the dragon, and of Elphaba's flight. As long as you're happy with that, the seats are no problem.

Rows ZG, ZH and ZJ, the last three, are extra seats added either side of the sound and light desk, and they aren't classed as restricted. Take a seat towards the outer end of the row. The seats nearest the desk sit against the partition around it, which cuts off the far side of the stage.

What to avoid

The outer seats of the front side blocks. In the first few rows the end seats sit outside the line of the stage opening, at an awkward angle, and the angle eases from about row J.

A seat behind a tall person in the front half, if you're short. The floor rises only gently up to row P, which on its own doesn't really affect the view, but the seats line up directly behind one another, so a tall head in front sits in your line. The rise gets better behind row Q.

Legroom in the Stalls

Fine for most people up to about 6ft 2. Rows B and C are the tightest on the level. Row Q is the one to book if you're tall. Behind row Q, the seats beside the aisles give you room to stretch one leg out.

Steps

From Wilton Road it's four steps up into the foyer, then 33 steps down to the Stalls, and there's no lift to this level. Once you're inside the Stalls there's a very slight slope but no more steps. If you need to avoid stairs, the Dress Circle is the level for you, and the access page explains the route.

Drinks and toilets

For drinks, there's a bar at the rear of the Stalls. You'll find toilets on both sides of the level, with more at the front. Order your interval drinks when you arrive and they'll be waiting for you.

Stalls FAQs

Is it better to sit on the left or the right of the Stalls?

In the front half of the Stalls, the right as you face the stage, where the seat numbers are low. Wicked's set has a staircase on the left, so the high-numbered seats at the far left of the front side blocks lose more of the stage.
