Boxes at the London Coliseum
Boxes on three levels, the Stalls, the Dress Circle and the Upper Circle, and they're not one thing. The ones at the back of the Stalls are among the best seats in the building. The ones at the sides are for the private space rather than the view.
The Boxes at the back of the Stalls: book these
Boxes A, B, C, F, G and H, and the two smaller Boxes 4 and 5, run along the back of the Stalls. They're raised slightly above the last rows, so nothing gets in your way, and because nothing overhangs the Stalls, you keep the whole stage. You get privacy and a good view, and we'd recommend them highly.
They are some of the only Boxes in London that we'd actually recommend.
Each one is recessed into the back wall, with the level above as its ceiling. That's normal for a Box, and it doesn't cut into the view.
They're also step-free from the foyer, and the four wheelchair spaces in the Boxes are here.
The side Boxes in the Stalls
Boxes 1, 2, 7 and 8 sit in pairs at the sides of the orchestra pit, between the front row and the stage. You're very close, and you lose a big slice of the stage. Boxes 3 and 6, a little further back, lose about a fifth.
The Royal Box, the Dress Circle Boxes and the Upper Circle Boxes
The Royal Box and Boxes 9 to 13 are at Dress Circle level, and Boxes 14 to 17 are one floor up at Upper Circle level. The Royal Box and Box 9 sit above the orchestra pit and miss up to a fifth of the stage.
Expect an angled view with part of the stage out of sight. Because these Boxes sit a little back from the stage, the angle is gentler than the plan suggests, and the chairs are movable, so legroom is whatever you make it. What you're buying is your own space, with the view as the trade.
The Upper Circle Boxes are stairs only, like the rest of that level.
What to book instead
For the view, at similar money: the centre of the Stalls, rows B to H, or the front of the Dress Circle. Either shows you more of the stage than any side Box. If what you want is privacy and a good view together, the Boxes at the back of the Stalls do both.
Who a side Box suits
A side Box is a good choice for a birthday or an anniversary, or for a group of four to six who would rather have their own space than the best view of the stage. Just book it knowing you'll be watching from the side.
Boxes FAQs
Are the Boxes worth it at the London Coliseum?
The ones at the back of the Stalls, yes: they're raised above the last rows, nothing blocks the stage, and you get the privacy too. The side Boxes are worth it for an occasion rather than for the view, because they're very side-on and lose part of the stage.
How many seats are in a Box at the London Coliseum?
It varies. The lettered Boxes at the back of the Stalls hold five, Boxes 4 and 5 hold two, the side Stalls Boxes two to four, the Royal Box six, the other Dress Circle Boxes four to six, and the Upper Circle Boxes four each.
Which Boxes are step-free?
The Boxes at the back of the Stalls, which also have the building's four Box wheelchair spaces. The access route has the rest.
