Access and Facilities at the Lyric Theatre
Now playing: Hadestown From £30 Book tickets
The step-free seats here are the wheelchair spaces in the Dress Circle Boxes. Report to the main entrance when you arrive, and staff take you to the step-free access entrance on Shaftesbury Avenue, which leads into those Boxes. There is no lift, so nothing else in the building avoids stairs, and that includes the bars.
Access bookings are handled by the venue, not by us. Go through the access team on the theatre's official site, and they can allocate the right seats.
Arriving
Allow extra time. If you've booked an access seat, arrive 45 minutes before the show, so staff can take you round to the side entrance before the doors get busy.
Wheelchair spaces
There are three, one in each of Dress Circle Boxes C, D and E, and your companions sit in the Box with you. The doorways into the Boxes are 73cm wide. You can also transfer to a seat, and staff will look after the wheelchair until the end of the show.
If you can manage some stairs
If stairs are hard but not impossible, book the Dress Circle. Everyone climbs 4 steps from the pavement into the foyer, and from there:
- Dress Circle: 1 or 2 steps
- Stalls: 24 steps down
- Grand Circle: 25 steps up
- Balcony: 60 steps up
Accessible toilet
The accessible toilet, unisex and fully adapted, is on the Dress Circle level, close to the wheelchair Boxes.
Hearing and sight
The theatre has a Sennheiser radio-frequency hearing system, and headsets are handed out on a first-come basis rather than reserved. As well as headsets, there's a receiver with a neckloop for hearing aids set to T. No induction loop is fitted, and the system isn't Bluetooth compatible.
Hadestown has audio-described, captioned and BSL-interpreted performances during the run, and touch tours are usually offered before audio-described and relaxed performances. The venue's access team has the dates.
Assistance dogs
Welcome in the auditorium, and an aisle seat gives your dog more room. The theatre also looks after up to two dogs during the performance, which is worth booking in advance.
Bars
None of the bars can be reached step-free, so staff will bring drinks, snacks and merchandise to your seat instead. Otherwise there's a bar on every level, the Dress Circle's being in the foyer, and each has children's drinks and snacks. Ice creams and programmes are sold in the foyer and in the auditorium itself. Order interval drinks before the show and they'll be ready for you.
Toilets
Every level has Ladies and Gents. For baby changing, use the accessible toilet on the Dress Circle level or the Ladies on the Stalls or Grand Circle.
Cloakroom
A small one, which takes large bags, suitcases and pushchairs for a small charge. Anything you leave there may be searched.
Children
Booster seats to pick up when you arrive, and a buggy park in the Dress Circle Boxes. Space in the buggy park is limited, and buggies need to fold up fully.

Access FAQs
Is the Lyric Theatre wheelchair accessible?
In part. The wheelchair spaces are in Dress Circle Boxes C, D and E, reached step-free from the access entrance on Shaftesbury Avenue after reporting to the main entrance. Nothing else in the building avoids stairs. Access tickets are booked through the venue's own access team.
Is there a lift at the Lyric Theatre?
No. The step-free route goes in through a separate entrance to the Dress Circle Boxes, and every other level is reached by stairs.
