Access and Facilities at the Palace Theatre
Now playing: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child From £30 Book tickets
The Stalls are the step-free level here, reached through a separate door on Shaftesbury Avenue. There's no lift, so the Dress Circle, Grand Circle and Balcony are stairs only.
Access bookings go through the venue's own access team on the theatre's official site, not through us.
Arriving and finding your seat
Start at the main entrance on Cambridge Circus. From there, staff walk you round to the access door on Shaftesbury Avenue. That door has one small step, about 3cm, and a ramp can be put down. The venue suggests arriving 45 minutes before the show so there's time to get you settled.
Everywhere else, here's how many steps each route takes:
- Street to foyer: 2 up
- Foyer to Stalls: 20 down, or 3 down through an alternative door for anyone with limited mobility
- Foyer to Dress Circle: 30 up
- Foyer to Grand Circle: 56 up
- Foyer to Balcony: 77 up
Wheelchair and transfer seating
Seats S3 and S28 in the Stalls come out to make the wheelchair spaces, and companion seats sit alongside them. If you can transfer out of your wheelchair, every aisle seat in the Stalls is suitable. Row S is under the Dress Circle overhang, so the top of the stage can be cut off from the wheelchair spaces.
Access seats, and any access concessions, are booked through the venue's access team.
Accessible toilet
There's a fully adapted unisex toilet at the back of the Stalls, and ladies' and gents' toilets on every level.
Drinks at the bars
Every level has its own bar, though none can be reached without steps. Instead, staff can bring you drinks, snacks or merchandise where you're sitting.
Help with hearing
The theatre lends out a Sennheiser radio system for free, first come, first served. You can choose a headset, or a neckloop that works with hearing aids switched to T. It won't connect over Bluetooth, and there isn't an induction loop.
Bringing an assistance dog
Welcome, and it's best to book an aisle seat so your dog has room. Tell the access team in advance. If you'd prefer your dog skipped the show, the theatre runs a dog-sitting service that takes up to two dogs each performance.
Signed, audio-described, captioned and relaxed performances
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has all four in its first months as a single show:
- British Sign Language interpreted: Sunday 17 January and Sunday 9 May 2027, 2:30pm
- Audio-described: Sunday 24 January and Sunday 23 May 2027, 2:30pm
- Captioned: Sunday 31 January and Sunday 16 May 2027, 2:30pm
- Relaxed: Friday 5 March and Friday 14 May 2027, 7pm
Cloakroom and bags
A small cloakroom takes coats and small bags for a small charge. Cursed Child has a strict 41 x 31 x 16cm limit on anything you bring into the building, with no storage outside for a suitcase, so travel light. Every bag is searched on the way in.
Programmes and merchandise
Programmes and ice cream are sold in the foyer and in the auditorium. The official Cursed Child gift shop is on your way in, with wands, scarves and t-shirts.
Tips for the night
- Use the Nimax Theatres app to pre-order interval drinks on the day of the show. You get 10% off and collect them at a time that suits you.
- Bring a bottle of water. Sealed water is the one thing from outside you can take in, and the bars will refill it for free.
- Check the step count for your level before you set off. The Balcony is 77 steps up, so leave a few extra minutes.
- Leave the smart glasses at home. They're not allowed in, so bring an ordinary pair if you need them.
- Look at the walls on your way in. The Hogwarts wallpaper and the lighting were added when the theatre was refurbished for Cursed Child.

The Stalls are. The wheelchair spaces are there, reached through the access door on Shaftesbury Avenue, which has one 3cm step and a ramp. There's no lift to the other levels. Access bookings go through the venue's own team.
