Who's Dirty Dancing For?

Anyone who loves the film and wants to see it live. The watermelon, the lift and the songs are all in it.

People making a night of it. The theatre is on Old Compton Street, so dinner before and a drink after are a few doors away rather than a journey.

Hen parties. Dirty Dancing has always been a favourite for a hen do, and the Friday 5pm show is made for one: you are out by about 7:15pm with the whole evening in Soho still ahead of you.

Not for you if you want a reinvention. Nobody has reworked this story for the stage or written new songs for it. It is the film, live, and that is the point of it.

Not for a young child. The theatre recommends it for 14 and over, and under 3s are not admitted at all. There is more on why in the FAQs.

What Tickets Cost

Most seats are around £70 to around £125, and premium seats start from around £140. The cheapest tickets start from around £30. Where in that range your seat falls depends on the level and how close to the centre you sit.

We sell with all-in pricing, so the price you see is what you pay.

Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we will tell you what is available on your date and in which part of the theatre.

About Dirty Dancing at the Prince Edward Theatre

This is Dirty Dancing's sixth London run.

The original London production opened at the Aldwych in 2006 on a £15 million advance, the largest in West End history at the time, and it remains the fastest-selling show the West End has had. It ran five years, longer than anything else in that theatre's history, and more than two million people saw it. It has come back repeatedly since, and toured between times.

Federico Bellone directs and designs the set. Austin Wilks choreographs, and he knows the show from the inside: he danced in it in the West End and on tour, Johnny Castle among his roles, before he took over the choreography in 2021.

The Prince Edward is one of the bigger theatres in the West End, with around 1,700 seats across the Stalls, the Dress Circle and the Grand Circle, and ten Loges along the sides.

What's Dirty Dancing About?

Summer 1963. Frances Houseman, who everyone calls Baby, arrives at Kellerman's, a resort in the Catskills, on a family holiday with her parents and her sister. She wanders into the staff quarters one night, finds a room full of people dancing in a way nobody is dancing upstairs, and meets Johnny Castle, the resort's dance instructor.

She ends up learning his routine, badly at first. Around that, the staff have troubles of their own that the guests are not supposed to know about, and Baby's father is the last person who should find out she is involved.

The story is the film's, scene for scene, and so is a good deal of the dialogue. The songs are the film's songs, played live, with a few more besides. Most people booking it already know how it ends. Seeing it happen in front of you is the reason to come.

Best Seats for Dirty Dancing

The stage is at one end, behind a proscenium arch, with three levels facing it.

The Stalls are good almost all the way back and have the best legroom. The centre of the Dress Circle is the best seat in the building. The Grand Circle is high and steep, and its first three rows are a good, cheap way in.

Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we will tell you what is left on your date.

Each level, row by row, is in our Prince Edward Theatre guide.

Cast and Creative Team

Michael O'Reilly plays Johnny Castle, Pippa Jackson plays Baby and Emily Layden-Fritz plays Penny. The full company and creative team are in the Cast and Creatives tab.

Tickets and Best Seats for Dirty Dancing

The Prince Edward is a traditional theatre, with the stage at one end and three levels facing it. Pick by level first, then by where on it you sit.

Stalls

Good almost all the way back, with the best legroom in the building. The Dress Circle hangs over the back of the Stalls, and it takes less of the view than people expect. What changes from row to row is getting out rather than seeing: rows A to K have no aisles, so you go in from the ends, and from row U back the ends of the rows are against the side wall. Rows L to T avoid both.

Dress Circle

The centre is the best seat in the theatre. The back rows sit further from the stage, and we like them less. Row A has a wall in front of it with lights often fixed to it, which can get in the way of shorter people and, because of the lights, of tall people too, so row B is the safer front row.

Grand Circle

High and steep, with rows that curve round so the seats at the ends see less. The first three rows are the good buy up here, with a clear view for not much money.

Loges and Boxes

The ten Loges jut out at the front of the Dress Circle, five on each side, and they are some of our favourite seats in the West End: close to the stage and almost unobstructed. The Boxes are much further round to the side, and you miss parts of the stage from them.

Call us on 020 7193 9050 to hear what is left on your date in each part of the theatre, and what each costs.

Each level, row by row, is in our Prince Edward Theatre guide.

Getting to the Prince Edward Theatre

The Prince Edward Theatre is on Old Compton Street, London W1D 4HS, in Soho.

Tottenham Court Road (Central, Northern and Elizabeth lines) is about four minutes away on foot, and Leicester Square (Northern and Piccadilly) about five. Charing Cross is the nearest mainline station.

By bus, 24, 29 and 176 stop on Charing Cross Road and 14 and 19 on Shaftesbury Avenue. The two roads meet at Cambridge Circus, at the end of Old Compton Street.

After the late Friday show, night buses N29, N41 and N279 run on Charing Cross Road, and N5, N19 and N20 on Shaftesbury Avenue.

There is no parking at the theatre. If you drive, Q-Park Theatreland takes 50% off after midday, and there is also NCP Brewer Street and metered parking at Soho Square.

Arriving

Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before, no later. The entrance is narrow for a theatre of this size, there are security checks at the door, and before a show the queue often reaches the pavement.

Latecomers are held until a suitable break in the show, and the theatre does not guarantee to let them in at all.

Where to eat and drink nearby, and the rest of the building, are in our Prince Edward Theatre guide.

Michael O'Reilly plays Johnny Castle, the resort's dance instructor. Pippa Jackson plays Frances 'Baby' Houseman, and Emily Layden-Fritz plays Penny Johnson. The rest of the London company has not been announced.

Creative team

Eleanor Bergstein wrote it. She also wrote the original 1987 screenplay, and the stage version keeps the film's characters and much of its dialogue.

Federico Bellone directs and designs the set. He has directed the show in its other recent stagings as well.

Austin Wilks is the choreographer. He danced in the show before taking it over in 2021, Johnny Castle among the parts he played. Jennifer Irwin designs the costumes and Ceri Adams the wigs and hair. Richard John is the music supervisor, Valerio Tiberi designs the lighting and Chris Whybrow the sound. Harry Blumenau CDG is casting director.

Karl Sydow produces, with Lionsgate and Magic Hour Productions. Juliet Gough is associate director.

Dirty Dancing News

Dirty Dancing plays the Prince Edward Theatre from 19 January to 24 April 2027, and general booking opened on 6 October 2026. Michael O'Reilly, Pippa Jackson and Emily Layden-Fritz were announced as Johnny, Baby and Penny on 30 September.

If you had tickets for the Capital Theatre at Westfield, the producer is contacting ticket holders directly.

There are no reviews of this London season yet, because it has not opened. The reviews you will find at the moment are of the UK and Ireland tour, which shares this season's director, choreographer and costume designer but has a different cast.
