Who Is Sinatra The Musical Best For?

  • Anyone who loves the songs. This is the reason to come. That's Life, One For My Baby, Come Fly With Me, The Best Is Yet To Come, and New York, New York held back for the curtain call.
  • Anyone who wants to hear a real band. Seventeen, on stage, arranged by Gareth Valentine. Several critics made it their main highlight.
  • Less good for: anyone hoping for the full, complicated Frank. The show covers about nine years and stays on the brighter side of him.

What Tickets Cost

Seats start from around £35 midweek and around £40 at the weekend, with the best in the house up to around £175 and £195.

Our price is all-in, so everything is in the figure and nothing arrives at checkout. That can read higher than a price quoted elsewhere, because elsewhere the fee is still coming.

Deals come and go, and not all of them are visible online. If you cannot see one for your date, call us on 020 7193 9050 and we will tell you what we can actually get you.

About Sinatra The Musical at the Aldwych Theatre

Joe DiPietro wrote the book and Kathleen Marshall directs and choreographs, both multiple Tony winners.

It is not the show's first outing. It tried out at Birmingham Rep in 2023 and has been reworked since.

What Is Sinatra The Musical About?

It opens on New Year's Eve, 1942. Frank Sinatra is 27, about to walk on at the Paramount in New York, and about to change popular music.

What follows covers roughly nine years: the rise, the marriage to Nancy, the affair with Ava Gardner that cost him his audience, the collapse, and the comeback that ended with an Oscar for From Here to Eternity. More than twenty songs and a Sinatra whirlwind.

Performance Schedule

Sinatra The Musical plays Tuesday to Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, with matinees on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2:30pm. There is no Monday or Sunday performance.

Day Matinee Evening
Monday - -
Tuesday 2:30pm 7:30pm
Wednesday - 7:30pm
Thursday 2:30pm 7:30pm
Friday - 7:30pm
Saturday 2:30pm 7:30pm
Sunday - -

Eight performances a week, three of them matinees, and one of those on a Tuesday, which is not the pattern most West End shows keep. Running time is about 2 hours 30 minutes including one interval, so a 7:30pm start is down around 10pm.

Age guidance is 13 and over, and under-5s are not admitted.

Best Seats for Sinatra

Nobody sits far from the stage at the Aldwych and there are no pillars. What sometimes catches people out is the overhang, not the distance.

Go for the central Stalls, or the first three or four rows of the Dress Circle. The value is the back of the Dress Circle, which beats the cheap rear Stalls for similar money, because back there the circle above closes in over your head.

Full seat-by-seat detail is in our Aldwych Theatre guide, or call 020 7193 9050 and we will match a seat to your budget.

Cast and Creative Team

Joel Harper-Jackson plays Frank Sinatra (Standing at the Sky's Edge, Kinky Boots). Ana Villafañe is Ava Gardner (On Your Feet!), Phoebe Panaretos is Nancy Sinatra (Strictly Ballroom), and Olivier winner Jenna Russell is Frank's mother Dolly.

A nice detail: the ensemble double as real figures from the period. Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Gene Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Lana Turner and Tommy Dorsey all appear.

Book by Joe DiPietro, direction and choreography by Kathleen Marshall, set by Olivier winner Peter McKintosh, with Gareth Valentine supervising the music.

Booking currently to Saturday 10 April 2027, which is further ahead than almost anything else in the West End. That is good news for choosing a date and bad news for taking the first price you see, because prices and offers move a lot over a run that long.

Ring us before you book if the date is flexible. The price we quote is the price you pay, and we can tell you what is actually live for your night rather than what the website is showing today.

Tickets and Best Seats for Sinatra

What this show does to the seat question. The 17-piece band plays on the stage rather than in a pit, but it is screened for much of the evening and revealed at the big moments, so there is no need to pay extra for a wide view to see it. Sit where you would normally sit here.

One thing worth knowing before you choose. There is hard flashing light in the New York, New York finale, aimed out at the audience, and a critic sitting in the Stalls found it painful. If strobing light is a problem for anyone in your party, choose the Dress Circle.

The overhang. The Dress Circle juts over the Stalls from about Row H and begins to cost you from about Row O. The Dress Circle's own overhang starts around Row E but is much gentler, which is why the back of that level is the better cheap seat.

Avoid the Grand Circle from Row E back, where the legroom runs out and the seats narrow.

Prices are in the Overview tab. All-in pricing, and any restricted-view seat is marked before you buy.

Sinatra The Musical Cast

Joel Harper-Jackson, Frank Sinatra

The reason to see it, on the critics' own evidence. Every single review praised the singing, whatever else they said about the show.

The Times called it "the swagger of the young crooner". The Stage described "a voice that emulates his character's smooth, chocolatey tones". The Daily Mail said he "serves it up like a double whiskey on the rocks."

His last two London shows were Standing at the Sky's Edge and Kinky Boots.

The company

Ana Villafañe as Ava Gardner, from the Broadway and West End On Your Feet!. Phoebe Panaretos as Nancy Sinatra, from Strictly Ballroom. Jenna Russell, an Olivier winner, as Frank's mother Dolly, which several critics called the best thing in the show after the star.

Marty Maguire plays Marty Sinatra and Lee Zarrett the publicist George Evans. Little Nancy is shared between Sylvie Regan, Mia Savident and Felicity Walton.

And the ensemble play the era. Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Gene Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Lana Turner, Tommy Dorsey and the columnist Hedda Hopper all appear.

Creative team

Joe DiPietro (book, two Tony Awards) · Kathleen Marshall (director and choreographer, three Tony Awards and an Olivier) · Peter McKintosh (set, Olivier winner) · Jon Morrell (costume) · Gareth Valentine (musical supervisor) · Larry Blank (orchestrations) · Bruno Poet (lighting) · Jonathan Deans (sound) · Akhila Krishnan (video).

Sinatra The Musical Reviews

The critics saw it on 24 June 2026. Most of the star ratings landed on three, with one five, one four and one two.

They agreed on the singing. Not one review criticised Joel Harper-Jackson's voice.

They agreed on the band. WhatsOnStage called Gareth Valentine's 17-piece band "the undoubted highlight".

And they divided on the book. The Arts Desk found it wandering into "rather hackneyed territory", the Telegraph called it "clunky" and the Standard, on the lowest rating of the lot, thought it left the show "lamely written". The Reviews Hub, alone on five stars, took the opposite view and called it the reason the songs land.

The Daily Mail, at three stars, ended: "if you're happy with a 3D jukebox, Harper-Jackson could well fly you to the moon."

Every review, with stars and quotes, is in our full round-up: What the Critics Say.
