More About the Capital Theatre
Opening soon: Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage From £102 Book tickets
A purpose-built theatre of 35,000 square feet, on the site of the old Debenhams in the southwest corner of Westfield London. It has not opened yet and has no confirmed opening date. It holds around 620 people, and the auditorium is flexible rather than fixed: the stage sits in the middle with the audience on three sides of it, and the space can be reconfigured for what is playing.
The whole evening sits inside one building: the parking, the meal, the drink and the show.
Who is behind it
Adam Kenwright, through Kindred Partners, with Karl Sydow. The team that designed and built it also built the Bridge Theatre and @sohoplace, both of which can put the audience around the stage rather than in rows facing it, and this auditorium works the same way.
Two delays, and what the first one bought
The theatre was supposed to open in October 2025. Planning and design problems during construction pushed it back a full year.
The producers spent the delay enlarging the building rather than waiting it out. It gained a full-size double-height rehearsal studio and additional backstage and front-of-house space, so a company can rehearse in the building it will perform in.
It was then due to open on 16 October 2026. In September 2026, a few weeks before that, the opening was delayed again, this time by continuing planning permission delays with Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council. No new date has been set.

About FAQs
How many seats does the Capital Theatre have?
Around 620. Published figures do not entirely agree with each other, and around 620 is the one with the longest history and the most sources behind it. The building was redesigned partway through construction, which may be where the other figures come from.
What was on the site of the Capital Theatre before?
Debenhams. The department store occupied the southwest corner of Westfield London and the theatre was built into that space, so everything in the building is new.
