Hotels, Restaurants and Bars Near the Lyceum Theatre
Now playing: The Lion King From £42 Book tickets
The Lyceum sits between Covent Garden, the Strand and the river, so there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and hotels a few minutes from the door, and plenty that are happy with children before a Lion King matinee.
Eat
Joe Allen (1 minute). Right by the theatre. A theatreland institution since 1977, down a flight of stairs, with a pre-theatre menu and food served late, so it works after the show too.
Paro (1 minute). Covent Garden. A modern Indian with a good-value set menu, and room for a group.
The Delaunay (3 to 4 minutes). Aldwych. A Viennese-style café-restaurant on the Aldwych corner, built around theatre timings. Tell them when you need to leave.
Shake Shack (2 minutes). The Piazza, Covent Garden. The easy, no-fuss option with younger ones in tow: burgers and shakes, in and out quickly.
Maxwell's (4 to 6 minutes). Covent Garden. A long-running American diner that takes a family crowd in its stride.
Drink
The Wellington (2 to 3 minutes). On the corner of the Strand and Wellington Street. An Edwardian pub with a long list of cask ales, and busiest right before curtain, so get in early.
The Coal Hole (2 minutes). The Strand. The Savoy's own Victorian pub, set into the side of the hotel. No booking needed.
Christopher's Martini Bar (2 minutes). Wellington Street. The ground-floor bar makes a serious Martini, and it's the grown-up choice for one drink before you go in.
Radio Rooftop (3 to 4 minutes). At ME London, on the Strand. A drink with a view over the river. It's dressier than a pub and worth booking.
Stay
Strand Palace (1 to 2 minutes). The Strand. A large, recently refurbished hotel at a sensible price.
The Z Hotel Strand (3 to 4 minutes). Just off the Strand. Compact rooms at a good price, for when the room is just somewhere to sleep after the show.
Travelodge London Covent Garden (4 to 6 minutes). 10 Drury Lane. The cheapest bed on this list. Basic rooms, well placed, and no surprises.
ME London (3 to 4 minutes). The Strand. A design-led hotel, with Radio Rooftop in the building.
One Aldwych (2 to 3 minutes). Aldwych. Five stars and a basement pool, a short walk up the road, for when the hotel is part of the treat.
