You're on the Strand, so speed is easy and quality takes five minutes' walking. These are the restaurants, pubs and hotels near the Vaudeville Theatre that we send people to.
Restaurants
Marugame Udon (3 minutes). 449 Strand. Big bowls of udon and tempura, cheap and fast, and hot food rather than a sandwich. The best budget option this close to the door.
Vasiniko (3 minutes). 7-9 Burleigh Street. Pizza, on a quiet turning off the Strand, so you're out of the crowd and still three minutes from your seat. It's small, so book.
Flat Iron (3 minutes). Henrietta Street. Steak at sensible prices. Book ahead, they're always busy.
The Ivy Market Grill (4 minutes). Covent Garden piazza. The one for a night that's an occasion in itself, and the kitchen is used to people with a show to get to.
And if you're short of time, LEON and Pret are both on the Strand within a few minutes, and there's a McDonald's and a Burger King almost at Charing Cross station.
Bars and pubs
The Coal Hole (3 minutes). On the Strand, at the corner of Savoy Court. An old Victorian pub, and close enough to finish your drink and still be in your seat on time. It fills up well before curtain up.
Nell Gwynne Tavern (3 minutes). Bull Inn Court. Tiny and old, down a passage off the Strand that's easy to walk straight past. For a quiet drink rather than a group.
CellarDoor (4 minutes). Wellington Street. A tiny cabaret bar in a former public toilet, open late with free acts most nights, drag included. The one to pick if you're out in a group and the night isn't finishing when the show does.
Gordon's Wine Bar (7 minutes). 47 Villiers Street. A candlelit cellar and the oldest wine bar in London. No bookings, so arrive early and take whatever table you find.
Hotels
Strand Palace (2 minutes). The Strand, a few doors along. Big and reliable, and the one to book if you want the shortest possible walk back.
The Z Hotel Strand (3 minutes). Small rooms, excellent position, and a fraction of what its neighbours charge. The pick if you'd rather the money went on the tickets.
The Savoy (3 minutes). The Strand, on its own courtyard. The landmark hotel, at landmark prices, for when the hotel is part of the trip.
The Londoner (9 minutes). Leicester Square. Five stars and a spa, a longer walk back but somewhere to spend the whole weekend.
