The Garrick sits at the top of Charing Cross Road, right where it opens onto Leicester Square, two minutes from the tube.
By tube
Leicester Square (Northern and Piccadilly lines) is the closest, about 2 minutes on foot. Charing Cross (Northern and Bakerloo lines) is 3 to 4 minutes, and Embankment (District and Circle lines) is around 6 minutes if you're walking up from the river.
By train
Charing Cross is the nearest mainline station, about 3 minutes away, handy for National Rail services across Kent and South East London.
By bus
The closest stop is St Martin's Place, on Charing Cross Road about a minute from the door, and more buses stop by Charing Cross station and on the Strand, about three minutes away. Which one to take depends on where you're coming from:
- From North London: the 24 (Hampstead and Camden Town), the 29 (Wood Green and Camden Town), the 91 (Wood Green, Holloway and King's Cross) and the 139 (Golders Green, West Hampstead and Baker Street)
- From West London: the 9 (Hammersmith, Kensington and Knightsbridge) and the 23 (Westbourne Park, Paddington and Marble Arch)
- From the east and the City: the 15 (Blackwall, Limehouse and the Tower of London) and the 26 (Hackney, Shoreditch and Liverpool Street)
- From South London: the 87 (Wandsworth and Vauxhall), the 176 (Penge, Elephant & Castle and Waterloo) and the 24 (Pimlico and Victoria)
The 24, 29 and 176 stop at St Martin's Place heading south, and outside Leicester Square station heading north. From the south side of Trafalgar Square, about five minutes' walk, the 12 (Peckham), 88 (Clapham), 159 (Brixton) and 453 (Deptford) cover more of South London.
Late at night, the N5, N20, N29, N41 and N279 run along Charing Cross Road.
By taxi
Black cabs are easy to find around Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and the Strand. Charing Cross Road is busy before a show, so drivers will often set you down on a side street nearby.
By car
Driving in is not the easy option. There's no theatre car park, but there are several close by:
- Q-Park Chinatown, Newport Place, a few minutes' walk
- Titan Leicester Square and JustPark at Trafalgar Square, both listed by the theatre
You're inside the Congestion Charge zone, which runs 7am to 6pm on weekdays and midday to 6pm at weekends, £18 a day. Arrive after 6pm for an evening performance and you won't pay it, but a matinee falls inside it. The ULEZ runs at all hours if your car doesn't meet its standards.
What time to arrive
Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before, no later. There's a bag check on the way in, and Charing Cross Road is busy before a show. The building and the bars open about an hour before the performance, and the auditorium about 45 minutes before.
If you're late, you'll be let in at a suitable break in the performance.
