Access and Facilities at the Prince Edward Theatre

Now playing: Beetlejuice From £25 Book tickets

The provision here is good and it is specific, and the one thing to understand before booking is that it all lives on one level.

Access bookings are handled by the venue's own access team, through the theatre's official site. That side of it is handled by the venue, not by us.

Getting in and getting to your seat

A lift in the main foyer on Old Compton Street gives step-free access to the auditorium. It reaches the Stalls.

Anyone who needs step-free access books in the Stalls. The Dress Circle and the Grand Circle are not step-free and are reached by stairs, so this is not a preference, it is how the building works.

An Access Host meets patrons on arrival and guides them in, so you are not working out the route yourself on the night.

Wheelchair spaces and transfer seats

Stalls Box 1 takes up to three wheelchair users, which is more than most West End theatres manage in one place. The maximum chair width is 78cm.

Transfer seats are Z12 and Z13, X12 and X13, and V12 and V13, all of them reached by the foyer lift.

Storage is limited to two wheelchairs and one scooter per performance, so if you need it, say so when you book rather than on the night.

Toilets

There is a step-free adapted toilet at the rear of the Stalls, on the same level the lift serves.

Bars

Five of them, which is a lot for one building, and which one you use depends on where you are sitting.

  • The Mozart Bar is at street level
  • The Stalls Bar and a separate Soft Drinks Bar are at Stalls level. A dedicated Soft Drinks Bar is unusual and it is genuinely useful with children or if you are not drinking
  • The Dress Circle Bar is on the Dress Circle and opens onto an external balcony, which almost no West End theatre has
  • There is a further bar on the Grand Circle, so the top level does not have to come down

All of them serve drinks and snacks, and none serve hot food.

Cloakroom and bags

Coats and small bags go in the cloakroom for a small charge. Larger bags and suitcases are not accepted, and neither are bikes.

If you are coming straight from a train with a suitcase, sort it out before you arrive. There is nowhere at the theatre to leave it.

The Box Office

Open from 2 hours 30 minutes before the performance until 15 minutes after curtain up, and on matinee days it stays open between the two performances. Delfont Mackintosh also runs a central Box Office at the Sondheim Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue W1D 6BA, Monday to Saturday midday to 6pm, covering all eight of their theatres.
