Adelphi Theatre, London
The Adelphi Theatre is one of the biggest theatres in the West End, on the Strand, and best known for big musicals. A play, The Lives of Others, is next in, from 14 October 2026. There are three levels, no lift above the Stalls, and a stage wide enough that side seats work well. The Stalls are the best level in the building, and the front of the Upper Circle is where the value is.

FAQs
How many people does the Adelphi Theatre hold?
Between 1,474 and 1,492, and which one depends on what is playing. The Lives of Others runs at 1,492 and Billy Elliot at 1,474. The only part of the building that changes is a short front row in the Stalls that some productions use and others take out.
Is there a dress code?
There isn't one. People come in everything from suits to jeans and nobody minds either way.
Can I wear shorts?
Yes. Nobody will look twice. In fact, people will be jealous on a hot day!
What is the bag policy?
Everyone goes through one queue on the Strand with bag checks, so the less you carry the faster you are through. Large bags and cases are best left elsewhere. The cloakroom takes clothing at £3 and bags at £5.
What area is the Adelphi in?
The Strand, on the southern edge of Covent Garden, a few minutes from Trafalgar Square and about five from the Covent Garden piazza.
Can I buy tickets at the Box Office?
Yes, and the counter is on the right as you come into the foyer, with a lower section for anyone who needs it. Booking with us means all-in pricing and no queue.
