Dress Circle at the Adelphi Theatre
433 seats, with a good view from further away than you might expect.
The thing to know before you book here
This Dress Circle is set further back than a Dress Circle is at most other West End theatres. That is what defines the level, and it is why we send most people downstairs instead.
What you get in exchange is a clean, raised view of the whole stage at once, which suits a big musical staged for exactly that.
Where to sit
The centre of the front block, rows A to C, is the pick on this level. Those three rows run unbroken across the auditorium, and being central matters more here than being one row forward.
From row D back a centre aisle divides the level, and the seats either side of it are worth having for the ease of getting out.
Avoid the front row unless you accept the trade. There is the wall in front of it, and it takes the legroom with it. Anyone much over 5ft 7in will know about it by the interval.
The far ends of rows C, D and E are sold as side-on, and a couple of seats in rows A and B are sold as restricted.
Price, and the stairs
Middle money for this level, and the front rows push towards the top of it. If it comes out the same price as the Stalls on your date, take the Stalls. You are further from the stage up here and no price makes that go away.
It is 41 steps up from the ground floor, and there is no lift. Handrails run the length of the stairs on both sides. Forty-one steps is about two and a half flights, and for plenty of people that is what decides the level.
FAQs
Is the Dress Circle too far back at the Adelphi?
Further back than you would expect, yes, so the row letter flatters it. The view itself is good and clean.
How many steps to the Dress Circle?
41 from the ground floor, with handrails. There is no lift to this level.
Is there legroom in the front row of the Dress Circle?
Not much. There is a wall in front of it. Under about 5ft 7in you will be comfortable; over it you will not.
