Access at the Aldwych Theatre

The step-free route here goes to the Dress Circle, not the Stalls, so check it before you book.

The step-free route

There is a side entrance on Drury Lane with level access into the foyer and on to the front of the Dress Circle, about 25 metres, step-free as far as Row C.

Wheelchair positions

Dress Circle Row C, seats 1 and 25, which have removable seats, plus Boxes D and E.

  • Box D takes one wheelchair and one companion
  • Box E takes one wheelchair and three companions

Both Boxes are reached through 72cm doorways and the wheelchair space is 60cm wide by 85cm deep.

The Boxes give a restricted view, so the Row C positions are the better seats of the two options.

Steps to each level

For anyone who can manage stairs but wants to know how many.

Getting in: five steps from the pavement to the foyer, handrails on both sides.

No customer lift anywhere in the building, so every level below or above the foyer means stairs.

Down to the Stalls: 25 steps, in three flights rather than one.

Up to the Grand Circle: more than 50 steps, the longest climb in the building.

Inside the Dress Circle you climb rather than walk: the rake is built in steps, two at every row, 22 from Row A to Row M. Handrails all the way. That 22 is the rake within the level, not the climb to reach it.

Facilities

Accessible toilet in the foyer. Hearing enhancement via the Sennheiser Tourguide system, collected from the merchandise counter. Assistance dogs welcome. Seats with extra legroom exist and are not marked on the plan, so ask.

Booking access seats

The venue runs an Access List with concessionary rates, including a free companion ticket where assistance is needed.

Registration for the Access List, concessionary rates and all access bookings are handled directly by the venue's own team, not by us. Book with the venue directly and confirm the route in for your performance at the same time.
