Two levels, the Stalls and the Dress Circle, in one of the smallest auditoriums in the West End. There are no pillars in the way, and no level here you should refuse outright.
The one thing to understand before you pick a seat
Everywhere is close to the stage. In a theatre this small, the choice is less about getting near and more about the rake, the ends of the rows and the price. That changes where the value is: a cheaper seat here is rarely a distant one, so it's worth spending less and sitting a little off-centre.
Should I sit in the Stalls or the Dress Circle?
The Stalls, if the price is similar. The middle of the Stalls is the best place in the building. The Dress Circle is the cheaper level, and its front-to-middle rows are the other good choice: head-on, well raked and close enough that the small scale of the place works in your favour.
The levels at a glance
- Stalls, rows A to O, 20 steps down from the foyer. The middle of rows E to K is the pick; the rake starts at row H, and the ends of rows A to E curve in and are restricted
- Dress Circle, nine rows, 11 steps up. Head-on, well raked and clear from every row, and the cheaper level
- Boxes, two at the back of the Dress Circle and two at its front corners. The rear two are among the cheapest seats in the theatre
Where the value is
The smart buy is a second-price seat in the Stalls, about a third of the way across a row and just off the centre. You keep a full view of the stage for noticeably less than the middle of the row. The seats right on the ends are cheaper still and fine for the money, though they miss a slice of the stage. Upstairs, the further back you go the less you pay, and even the back row of the Dress Circle keeps a clear view.
Is it good for someone who doesn't like heights?
Yes, more than most. There are only two levels and neither sits especially high. The steps in the Dress Circle are steep underfoot, so take care on the way to your seat, but you're never far from the stage.

FAQs
What are the best seats at the Duchess Theatre?
The middle of the Stalls, rows E to K, off the ends of the rows. After that, the front-to-middle of the Dress Circle. Call us on 020 7193 9050 for seat advice for your budget.
Which seats should I avoid at the Duchess Theatre?
The ends of the Stalls rows near the front, around rows A to E, where the rows curve in and the view is marked restricted. Otherwise there's barely a bad seat in the place.
