Restaurants, Bars and Hotels Near Soho Place Theatre
Soho Place Theatre sits where Soho meets Tottenham Court Road, with Denmark Street and St Giles Square across the road, so the restaurants, pubs and hotels nearby are mostly a few minutes' walk. For a 7pm start, book a table for about 5.30.
Restaurants
Flat Iron (2 minutes). 9 Denmark Street, just across Charing Cross Road. Steak, one cut, cooked well and priced sensibly. It's open from midday every day and takes bookings, so an early table before a 7pm start is easy.
Din Tai Fung (2 minutes). 11 St Giles Square, across Charing Cross Road. Taiwanese dumplings, with the xiao long bao made in front of you behind glass, and seats for over 200, which matters at 6pm on a Saturday when everywhere smaller is full. Book ahead.
Kanada-Ya (3 minutes). 64 St Giles High Street. Ramen, quickly, at a counter. Use this one when the clock is against you.
Tattu (3 minutes). On the roof of the Now Building on Denmark Street. Modern Asian food, a cherry-blossom tree through the middle of the restaurant and a long cocktail list, with prices to match. Book it when the theatre trip is the whole evening.
Bars and pubs
The ground-floor bar (in the theatre). Cocktails, draught beer and light snacks, served from 90 minutes before curtain up until 11pm, so it works for a drink afterwards as well as before.
Nica's Bar (in the theatre). On the fifth floor, reached by lift, with an outdoor terrace looking over the crossroads of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road.
The Cambridge (4 minutes). Cambridge Circus, straight down Charing Cross Road. The obvious pre-show pint on this stretch.
The Toucan (4 minutes). 19 Carlisle Street, just off Soho Square. Tiny, and it pours one of the best pints of Guinness in London. It's closed on Sundays.
The Museum Tavern (6 minutes). 49 Great Russell Street, opposite the British Museum. A proper Victorian pub, with the mirrors and woodwork still in place, and quieter before a show than the Soho pubs.
Hotels
The Bloomsbury Hotel (5 minutes). 16-22 Great Russell Street. The closest good hotel on the Bloomsbury side, and the walk back after the show is a calm one.
The Z Hotel Soho (5 minutes). 17 Moor Street. Compact rooms at sharp prices, and about as close to the theatre as a budget bed gets.
The Londoner (8 minutes). Leicester Square, straight down Charing Cross Road. Five stars, with restaurants, a spa and a cinema under it.
Radisson Blu Hotel, London Mercer Street (9 minutes). 20 Mercer Street, Seven Dials. A smart four-star and an easy base for a theatre weekend. The standard rooms are small, so book up a grade if that matters.
