Access and Facilities at St Martin's Theatre

The Dress Circle is the only level to book if stairs are difficult. It's five steps up from the foyer, with two steps between rows, and it's where the two wheelchair spaces are. There's no lift to the other two: it's 29 steps down to the Stalls and 28 up to the Upper Circle, and neither is suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.

Access bookings and questions about specific requirements are handled by the venue, not by us. Book early, as the theatre's own access team can hold specific seats.

Getting in

The main entrance on West Street has three shallow steps up to the foyer. For wheelchair users, staff lay a removable ramp over them and help you in. Handrails run along every staircase, and the step edges are marked out.

Wheelchair spaces

There are two wheelchair spaces, one in Box C and one in the Dress Circle, each with room for a companion beside you. In Box C, a low platform raises the chair so the front of the Box doesn't block your view. Or, if you can transfer, book a Dress Circle aisle seat instead.

Accessible toilet

You reach the adapted toilet, on the Dress Circle level, from a separate entrance on Tower Court. Staff will walk you there.

Hearing and sight

Every level is covered by an RF (radio frequency) assistive listening system. If your hearing aid has a T-coil setting, use a pendant. With a headset, hearing aids have to come out and be turned off first. Bluetooth isn't supported.

Audio description is available: reserve a headset in advance. Some performances are captioned.

Assistance dogs

Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome in the auditorium. Staff can also dog-sit in the manager's office while you watch, if you arrange it at the time of booking.

Bars

One bar per level, each reached by stairs. Alongside wine, beer, spirits, soft drinks and snacks, there are Bottle Proof cocktails made for the theatre and a Mousetrap Gin by 58 and Co. The Dress Circle Bar opens first, an hour before the show. To skip the interval queue, order at your level's bar when you arrive. You can take drinks to your seat in plastic cups, and it's card only.

Toilets

Six, spread over the three levels, with only a cubicle or two in most of them, so expect a queue at the interval. The Dress Circle level has the most.

Bags and coats

There's no cloakroom, so there's nowhere to leave a coat or a case once you're inside. Bags are checked at the door, and only bags small enough to go under or in front of your seat are allowed in.

Food

The kiosk and bars sell light snacks. Nothing hot is allowed inside, food or drink, so have dinner first.

Photos and programmes

You're welcome to take photos of the auditorium before the show, but none once the curtain goes up. Programmes are sold at the kiosk, and they'll stamp yours with the performance number.
