Trafalgar Theatre, London

London

The Trafalgar Theatre is on Whitehall, 50 metres south of Trafalgar Square and two to three minutes from Charing Cross. It holds 630 seats across two levels, Stalls and Dress Circle. At 630 it is small for the West End, and close with it: the front of the Stalls is a few feet from the stage. Oh, Mary! plays here until 2 January 2027 and won the 2026 Olivier for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.

Accessible toilets Induction loop

Book the Stalls. It is a 630-seat theatre and the front rows are a few feet from the stage. The cheapest way to sit there is row A on a weeknight at £72, half what the middle of the same level costs.

Height is the one reason to go upstairs instead. The Stalls seats are not offset, so you can find yourself looking at the back of a head rather than between two of them, and the rake is gentle. The Dress Circle climbs three steps between every row. If you are not tall, book up there.

On the two nights we priced, the £144 seats were £144 on both. Lower down they were not: a mid-Stalls seat was £72 on the Tuesday and £92.50 on the Saturday. At the top price the date makes no difference to what you pay. Below it, a weeknight saves you twenty pounds a seat.

The building spent seventeen years as Trafalgar Studios, cut into two small studios rather than one theatre. The seating went back to a single auditorium in 2021, so a plan dated before then shows a different room.

Below: the seating plan and where to sit, the Stalls and the Dress Circle row by row, why the Boxes are not the buy, how to get here, what the theatre can do on access, where to eat and drink on Whitehall, and how the building got from 1930 to now.

What's On at the Trafalgar Theatre

Oh, Mary!, Cole Escola's comedy directed by Sam Pinkleton, is booking to Saturday 2 January 2027. It runs 80 minutes straight through with no interval and is recommended for ages 14 and over. It won the 2026 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.

The lead role rotates through a run of guest names. Lolly Adefope plays it to 5 December 2026 and nothing has been announced after that date, so check who is on for your performance before you book.

There are two performances on Thursday, a 5:30pm and an 8:45pm, which is not the pattern most West End theatres run. Every other evening is 7:30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 3:30pm.

Nothing else has been announced at the theatre beyond that run.

What tickets cost

Most seats here go from around £40 up to around £80, with premium seats from around £100. The full range runs from £30 at the back of the Dress Circle to £144 in the middle of either level, and the seating plan says what each price buys and where it sits.

Prices change from one production to the next, so check them against your own date.

FAQs

Is the Trafalgar Theatre the same as Trafalgar Studios?

Same building, different shape. From 2004 to 2021 it was cut into two small studios and traded as Trafalgar Studios. In 2021 the two were put back together as one theatre with a Stalls and a Dress Circle, and the name changed with it. A seating plan showing Studio 1 and Studio 2 is from before the rebuild.

How many seats are in the Trafalgar Theatre?

630, over two levels plus four Boxes. The Stalls runs rows A to Q and is the larger of the two; the Dress Circle runs rows A to M above it. There is no row I on either level, which catches people out when they count their way along a plan.

What's on at the Trafalgar Theatre?

Oh, Mary! is booking to 2 January 2027. It is 80 minutes with no interval and the lead role rotates through guest casting. Thursdays run two performances, at 5:30pm and 8:45pm, so check the time on your ticket rather than assuming 7:30pm.

Is there a dress code at the Trafalgar Theatre?

No. There is no dress code and the theatre does not publish one, so wear what you like. Jeans and trainers are normal here.

Is the Trafalgar Theatre air conditioned?

Yes. The auditorium is air conditioned.

Are there bars at the Trafalgar Theatre?

Two. The Foyer Bar is at street level beside the Box Office, and the Stalls Bar is downstairs, 25 steps below the foyer or one lift ride. The Stalls Bar is the larger of the two and has some seating; both do drinks, bar snacks and ice creams.

Can I take a bag into the Trafalgar Theatre?

Yes, within reason, and bags are checked on the way in. The cloakroom takes coats and small bags only, no cases or luggage, and it opens within the hour before the performance. The theatre does not publish a charge for it.

Is there an age limit at the Trafalgar Theatre?

Children under 4 are not permitted, whatever is playing. Above that the age guidance is set by the production: Oh, Mary! is recommended for 14 and over. Everyone needs their own ticket.

What happens if I arrive late?

You wait. Latecomers are admitted at a suitable break in the performance, and Oh, Mary! is 80 minutes straight through with no interval, so a suitable break may be a long way in or may not come at all.

Can I buy tickets at the Box Office?

Yes. It is on Whitehall at street level and opens Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7:45pm. For a run that has extended three times, walking up on the day is a long shot, so call ahead to see what is left.

Can I book by phone, or for a group?

Yes to both. Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we will tell you what is available on your date, and put a group together in one block rather than scattered across two levels. The price we quote on the phone is the price you pay.
