Boxes at the Trafalgar Theatre
None of the four is on sale for Oh, Mary!
Where they are
Four, and they are not where most people expect.
- The Royal Box holds 4 seats, at Stalls level, alongside Stalls rows H to L. It is the best of them and it is downstairs, not up in the circle
- The Lorne Box holds 4 seats at Dress Circle level, alongside Dress Circle rows B to E
- Box A holds 2 seats at Dress Circle level, alongside rows H to J
- Box B faces it from the opposite side, also two seats
There is a fifth, a twin of the Lorne Box on the other side of the auditorium, which is not in use.
What you would see
Every Box here is side-on to the stage, and this is a 630-seat theatre. In a bigger theatre a Box buys you a private position that is otherwise unavailable; here the ordinary seats are already close, and turning side-on costs you a part of the stage picture that a seat in the body of the auditorium keeps.
The theatre does not publish a view from inside any of them, and neither the Royal Box nor the two small Boxes appear on the standard seating map.
What to book instead
At the money a Box would cost, the two best blocks in the building are both on sale.
- Stalls E to H, centre, at £144 for the current production. Square on, a few feet from the stage, and nothing in the way
- Dress Circle B and C, centre, at the same £144. The whole stage in one frame, from a steep rake with nothing above it
If what you want is the occasion rather than the view, four seats together in the centre of the Stalls will do the job here better than a Box will.
FAQs
Can you book a Box at the Trafalgar Theatre?
Not for the current production. All four are off sale for Oh, Mary!. When they do go on sale they hold two or four seats each and they are sold as a whole Box rather than as single seats.
Are the Boxes at the Trafalgar Theatre worth it?
We would take a seat in the body of the theatre instead. The Boxes are side-on in a 630-seat building where the ordinary seats are already close, so you give up part of the stage picture for a position you do not need at this size.
Where is the Royal Box at the Trafalgar Theatre?
At Stalls level, alongside rows H to L, which surprises people who expect a Royal Box to be upstairs. The Lorne Box and Boxes A and B are the ones at Dress Circle level.
