Royal Circle at the Victoria Palace Theatre

Now playing: Hamilton From £24 Book tickets

Rows A to L, 414 seats, the first level up. The Royal Circle gives you the clean view of the whole stage, which suits a big ensemble show like Hamilton, where the movement and the patterns on stage are half the point.

Where we'd put you

Rows B to D, around seats 17 to 24. That's the sweet spot on this level: close enough to feel near the stage, high enough to take in all of it.

If you're tall, or you'd like to pay a little less, go to row L, the back row, which the theatre marks as extra legroom from end to end. From there you still see nearly all of Hamilton. The level above clips only the tops of the performers' heads as they climb the stairs on the set, and the story doesn't depend on that. It's priced a little below the rows in front, which makes it a very good-value seat.

The Slips, four seats on each side of the circle, are quite side-on but don't give too bad a view of the show for what they cost.

What to avoid

  • Row A, if you're tall. It looks like the premium row and the view is excellent, but the legroom is the worst on the level. Go a few rows back rather than paying more to be cramped.
  • The middle of rows A to E, if you'll need to get out. There's no centre aisle in those rows, so from the middle you squeeze past half the row to reach either end.

Legroom in the Royal Circle

Tight in most rows. Row A is the tightest. From row F back it eases a little, and those rows have a centre aisle, so seats 20 and 21 give one leg some room. Row L is comfortable for people up to at least 5ft 10.

Steps

The Royal Circle is up the stairs from the foyer, and there's no lift to it.

Drinks and toilets

There's a bar up here and toilets too, so at the interval you can stay on this level.

Boxes on this level

The side Boxes and the three named Boxes behind row L, the Victoria, the Matcham and the Albert, are on the Royal Circle, and the Boxes page covers what they see.

Royal Circle FAQs

Is the Royal Circle good at the Victoria Palace Theatre?

Yes, particularly for Hamilton, where seeing the whole stage at once pays off. Rows B to D in the centre are the pick. The legroom is the catch in most rows, which is why row L, at the back, is the one to book if you're tall.

Does the Grand Circle overhang affect the Royal Circle?

Only at the back. The level above reaches out over the Royal Circle, and from rows K and L you lose the very top of the stage, which at Hamilton means the tops of heads on the set's upper level.
