Access and Facilities at Wyndham's Theatre

Opening soon: John Proctor Is the Villain Book tickets

For step-free entry, use the side entrance on Charing Cross Road: a wheelchair lift from there goes to Box A, at the back of the Stalls. Every other seat in the building is reached by steps, including a single step at the front door.

Access bookings are handled by the venue's own access team, not by us. Contact them through the theatre's official site to book, confirm where the spaces are for your performance and check the route in on arrival.

Where the wheelchair spaces are

There are two wheelchair spaces, both in Box A, and two is the maximum per performance. The lift takes a standard electric wheelchair: it holds up to 500kg and measures 46 by 31 inches.

Box A faces the stage from behind the last row of the Stalls. It's a straight view, but a distant one, and the circle overhead hides the top of the stage. If you'd rather move across, transfer seating is available to aisle seats in the Stalls, and staff can store your wheelchair during the show.

How many steps

There's one step up from the street into the foyer. From there, the Stalls are 18 steps down and the Royal Circle 18 up; the front of the Grand Circle is 41 up, and its raised rear section 56. The only lift is the wheelchair lift to Box A; there's no lift to any other level.

The side entrance reaches the Stalls in 8 steps down, rather than the 19 you take through the front. If you can manage some steps but not many, ask for the side entrance when you arrive. The theatre marks seats 3 and 4 in Stalls rows K to P as suited to limited mobility.

Where the accessible toilet is

It's the only accessible toilet in the building: go through Box A at the back of the Stalls, then down two steps. It isn't fully adapted and can't take a wheelchair, so if you need more space, the Noël Coward Theatre immediately behind this one has fully adapted facilities.

Hearing and sight

For hearing, pick up a listening receiver from the cloakroom before the show. It comes with headphones or a neckloop for hearing aids.

There are audio-described performances, with a touch tour of the set beforehand, and captioned performances. The theatre also has a visual story, as a video or to print, showing what a visit is like.

Help at your seat and assistance dogs

If getting to a bar is difficult, staff will bring your drinks to your seat. Access hosts are on hand from arrival, so let a member of staff know when you get there. Assistance dogs are welcome, and staff can look after your dog during the performance if you ask in advance.

For a drop-off or a Blue Badge, there are disabled bays nearby on St Martin's Lane and Charing Cross Road.

Bars

Three licensed bars, one per level: the Stalls, the Royal Circle, and the top of the building. They serve drinks and snacks, but no hot food, and the queues at the interval are real, so buying before the show is the better plan.

Toilets

The Ladies is off the foyer, up eight steps and then two down inside. The Gents is by the St Martin's Court entrance at street level, down one step, and eight steps up from the Stalls. There are men's and women's toilets on the Royal Circle, and toilets on the Grand Circle too. They get busy at the interval, so go early in it rather than late.
