By tube

Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines) is closest, two to three minutes on foot. Walk down Haymarket, cross Charles II Street, and the theatre is on your right. Leicester Square (Northern, Piccadilly) is around five to ten minutes and Charing Cross (Northern, Bakerloo) about ten, and both are usually quieter when everyone leaves at once.

Piccadilly Circus has no step-free access. The access page has the step-free route from Green Park.

By train and on foot

London Charing Cross is about ten minutes' walk via Trafalgar Square. Walking from Covent Garden takes about ten minutes, down through Leicester Square and along Coventry Street.

By bus

Haymarket runs one way, downhill towards Trafalgar Square, so both of its stops are on the theatre's side of the street and both work for getting here: Haymarket / Charles II Street (Stop P), a minute from the door, and Haymarket / Jermyn Street (Stop R), a couple of minutes up the hill. Which bus to take depends on where you're coming from:

  • From North London: the 88 (Kentish Town and Camden Town), the 139 (Golders Green, West Hampstead and Baker Street) and the 453 (Marylebone and Great Portland Street) come down Regent Street and stop on Haymarket. The 12 and 159 join them at Oxford Circus.
  • From West London: the 9 (Hammersmith, Kensington and Knightsbridge) and the 23 (Ladbroke Grove, Paddington and Marble Arch) stop at Haymarket / Jermyn Street. The 94 (Shepherd's Bush, Notting Hill Gate and Marble Arch) finishes on Charles II Street, right beside the theatre.
  • From South London: the 12 (Dulwich, Peckham and Elephant & Castle), the 88 (Clapham and Vauxhall), the 159 (Streatham, Brixton and Kennington) and the 453 (Deptford, New Cross and the Old Kent Road) stop at Trafalgar Square and again on Regent Street / St James's, both two or three minutes' walk.
  • From Waterloo and the Strand: the 139 from Waterloo, and the 9 and 23 from the Aldwych and the Strand, also stop at Trafalgar Square and on Regent Street / St James's.

A little further out, about four or five minutes' walk: the 14 (Putney, Fulham and South Kensington) and the 19 (Islington, Chelsea and Sloane Square) stop at Piccadilly Circus, and the 24 (Hampstead, Camden Town, Victoria and Pimlico), the 29 (Wood Green and Camden Town) and the 176 (Penge, Camberwell and Waterloo) stop on the far side of Trafalgar Square, by Charing Cross station.

Going home northbound you do not use Haymarket at all. The stops for Oxford Circus, Green Park and Hyde Park Corner are on Regent Street / St James's, about two minutes away. Heading east or south, go back to Haymarket: from Stop R the 9, 23 and 139 carry on to the Strand, the Aldwych and Waterloo, and from Stop P the 12, 88, 159 and 453 go on to Whitehall and Parliament Square.

Late at night, more than a dozen night routes use these stops, among them the N9 to Heathrow, the N113 to Edgware, the N3 to Bromley and the N136 to Chislehurst.

By car

There's no parking at the theatre, but two car parks are a short walk away:

  • Q-Park Leicester Square, Whitcomb Street, about three minutes, with EV charging
  • Q-Park Chinatown, Newport Place, about seven minutes, with EV charging

Both get busy on show nights, so book a space ahead if you can.

You are inside the Congestion Charge zone. It is £18 a day, running 7am to 6pm on weekdays and midday to 6pm at weekends and on bank holidays, so an evening performance falls outside it and a matinee does not. ULEZ is a separate charge that runs at all hours, but at £12.50 it applies only to vehicles that do not meet the emissions standards, and most cars from around 2006 on petrol or 2015 on diesel are compliant and pay nothing.

For a drop-off or a taxi, pull up in front of the theatre on Haymarket. For the step-free entrance, Charles II Street, round the side, is the closer drop-off point, and there are four Blue Badge bays opposite on Charles II Street. There is a taxi rank at Charing Cross, and black cabs can be hailed on Haymarket.

What time to arrive

Arrive 40 to 45 minutes before the performance. The building is part of what you are paying for: each level has something to look at, and the Royal Circle Bar has its own balcony over Haymarket. The foyer is small, so the looking around happens once you are upstairs. The doors open about an hour before the show.

If you're late, you may not be let in until a suitable point in the performance, which can be the interval.
