947 seats over four levels: the Stalls, the Royal Circle, the Grand Circle and, at the top, the Balcony. The same row letters turn up on every level, so check the level as well as the row. Low seat numbers are on the right-hand side as you face the stage, and high numbers on the left.

Where does your money go furthest?

  • Royal Circle, rows G and H. Usually priced below the front of the level, and you see over the heads in front more easily than from the rear Stalls at a similar price. The small side blocks at the ends of rows A to D are cheaper again, with a side-on view
  • Balcony, rows D and E. Among the cheapest seats in the theatre, and the two rows that see best over the safety bars
  • Stalls, rows S to V. They usually drop a price band, and the view holds up well unless a show puts things high on the stage
  • Grand Circle, the centre of rows B to E. Fair value, and good for anyone shorter, as you're looking down over heads rather than between them

Where are the best seats?

In the Stalls, the middle of rows C to J. In the Royal Circle, the middle of rows A to D. The Stalls put you closer. The Royal Circle gives you the whole stage from a little above, with a low rail at the front that stays out of the way.

Which seats should I avoid?

  • Stalls row K, if you're paying top price. It isn't staggered behind row J, so a tall person in front is right in your eyeline.
  • The rear Stalls, from about row Q, when a show uses the height of the stage. The Royal Circle above can cut off the top of the set.
  • Grand Circle row A, where a safety bar runs across the view, and most of the slip seats along the side walls of the Grand Circle and Balcony, where you'll be leaning to see.
  • Balcony row A, behind a double-height safety bar and short on legroom.
  • The Boxes, which are side-on. Is a Box worth it? has the detail.

Should I sit in the Stalls or the Royal Circle?

At the front, both are excellent: the Stalls are closer, and the Royal Circle sees the whole stage from above. Further back, the Royal Circle is usually the better buy. Rows G and H cost less than the middle Stalls and don't lose the top of the stage the way the back of the Stalls can.

Taller? The best seats for legroom

The Stalls have the most room, especially rows A to O. In the Royal Circle, a couple of seats in row H have nothing in front of them for two rows. The Grand Circle is tight for anyone over about 5ft 10, and Balcony row A is cramped for anyone over about 5ft 4.

Step-free seating

The Royal Circle only. The Stalls, the Grand Circle and the Balcony are all reached by stairs. The access page has the detail.

Seating Plan FAQs

What are the best seats at the Noël Coward Theatre?

Row C to row J in the middle of the Stalls, or rows A to D in the middle of the Royal Circle. On a budget, row G or H at the back of the Royal Circle is the one to book.

What is the view like from each level?

From the front Stalls you're close and looking up a little, because the stage is high. The Royal Circle looks at the stage straight on from just above it. The Grand Circle is higher again, and the Balcony is a long way up, with safety bars across the view from its front rows.
