Two levels: the Stalls, which sit below street level, and the Circle above, plus one Box on the side wall of the Circle. The Stalls run from row A to row P and the Circle from row A to row M. There's no centre aisle on either level, so every row runs unbroken and you reach your seat from the sides.

The one thing to understand before you pick a seat

In a theatre this small there are no bad views as such, so the cheaper seats are genuinely worth a look. A top-price ticket buys you less of an upgrade here than it would in a big theatre, which is why we'd rather you went slightly cheaper than paid premium prices.

Should I sit in the Stalls or the Circle?

The Stalls. The Circle is perfectly decent, especially its front five rows, but it sits quite high for a small theatre and the legroom up there is tight. If the Stalls price works for your date, take it.

The levels at a glance

  • Stalls, rows A to P. The middle of rows D to J is the pick, and the side seats are the value. Row P, at the very back, is the one to skip
  • Circle, rows A to M. The front five rows are the ones to have. Tight legroom throughout, and nothing overhangs it
  • Box C, four chairs on the side wall of the Circle. A side-on view, and the Stalls are the better buy

Where we'd spend less

The side seats in the Stalls. With no centre aisle the rows run straight across without a break, so a seat two thirds of the way along costs less and still sees the full stage, and you climb over fewer people to get to it. The Circle is the budget choice when the price gap is real: even its back rows keep the whole stage in a theatre this small.

Taller? The best seats for legroom

Book the Stalls if you can. Our picks for long legs, level by level:

  • Stalls: row A, with only the stage ahead of you, then rows B and C
  • Circle: the two end seats of row B, where the row in front stops short, or the first three seats of row M at the back. The rest of the Circle is tight for anyone over about 5ft 7

Step-free seating

The Stalls, by platform lift. The two wheelchair spaces are in Stalls rows E and G. The Circle is up a few steps, and Circle row F is only five steps from the entrance. The access page has the detail.

FAQs

What are the best seats at the Ambassadors Theatre?

The middle of the Stalls, Row D to Row J: close to the stage, and far enough back that the rake lifts you over the row in front. After that, the front five rows of the Circle.

Are there any bad seats at the Ambassadors Theatre?

Very few. Think twice about Stalls row P, squeezed either side of the sound desk, and Circle row H if getting in and out matters: its seats don't fold up and you can only reach it from one end.

Is it called the Circle or the Dress Circle?

The Ambassadors calls its upper level the Circle. It's the level other theatres would call the Dress Circle.
