Restaurants, Bars and Hotels Near the Savoy Theatre
You are on the Strand here, with Covent Garden a few streets north, so there are plenty of restaurants near the Savoy Theatre, the nearest pub is on the corner of Savoy Court, and the Savoy Hotel shares the forecourt. These are the ones we send people to.
Paddington starts at 7pm, so book a table for around half past five and tell them you are going to a show.
Eat
- Marugame Udon, Strand, seven minutes' walk towards Charing Cross. Counter-service udon and tempura on the Strand itself, and the quickest proper meal near the theatre. No booking needed; in and out in under an hour.
- Vasiniko, Burleigh Street, three minutes' walk. Pizza, on a quiet turning off the Strand towards Covent Garden. Small, and it fills, so book.
- Flat Iron, Henrietta Street in Covent Garden, four minutes' walk. One cut of steak and chips at sensible money, and the tables turn quickly enough that a half-five booking gets you out in time.
Drink
- The Coal Hole, Strand. On the corner of Savoy Court, so you can leave it at the last minute and still be in your seat. Old, busy, and full an hour before curtain.
- Gordon's Wine Bar, Villiers Street, six minutes' walk. Underground and candlelit, wine and cheese, and no bookings for the cellar. Go early or you will be standing outside.
- Nell Gwynne Tavern, Bull Inn Court, three minutes' walk. Tiny and old, down an alley off the Strand. For one quiet drink rather than a group.
Stay
- The Savoy, Strand. Shares the forecourt with the theatre, so you walk out of the show and you are home. The most expensive option here by a distance, and the one to book if the hotel is the trip.
- Strand Palace, Strand. Across the road from Savoy Court, comfortable rather than smart, and a fraction of what the hotel next to the theatre costs.
- The Z Hotel Covent Garden, Bedford Street, five minutes' walk. Compact rooms at a sensible price, and some have no window. Fine for sleeping, not for a lie-in with a view.
